My name is Janissa, but I am known across social media as Nessie Rae, which is derived from my first and middle name. I am twenty-something year old with a deep passion and love for reading (and buying books until my bookshelves are overflowing).
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to read and I am never seen without a book (or two). I primarily read romance in nearly all of its subgenres—Western, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Contemporary, and even Monster—and historical fiction. Last year, I started branching out into the literature fiction genre and I find that I do quite enjoy that, a lot more than I expected. I am still learning to grow into the Dark Romance and Why Choose—I just need to read more books to get a feel of them, but they seemed interesting.
Other than my love for reading and books, I always make sure to put emphasis on that I am deaf and I wear bilateral cochlear implants. This is an important part of who I am as a person as well as my Native American identity. As a twenty-something year old, I have a deep understanding of my hearing loss and what it means to be a Native American compared to when I was in my teen years just learning about them. It is my goal as reader to find and share books that uplift these two very important parts of myself.
